Betsy Devos Is Not Afraid of Standing Up For What Is Right

Betsy Devos may be somewhat of a newcomer to Washington. However, that doesn’t mean that she will be a low-key player. Those who know her say that she is driven and will always persist in reaching her goals. She is also not afraid to stand up against those who she thinks are wrong.

Evidence of this can be seen in the Trump administration’s decision to rescind the Obama administration’s decision about bathroom laws. Although publicly it seemed that there was no disagreement among Trump administration members, the truth is that Betsy Devos opposed the move and spoke out against it. She made that much clear in a meeting she had with a representative of LGBT employees of the education department. This means that she had to stand up against Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who is more entrenched and comfortable in Washington than she is. Betsy, on the other hand, has a relatively short history with President Trump. Although she was involved in politics for a long time, she had no previous experience in government when she took over. Nevertheless, she pushes for what she believes is right.

Mike Cox, a former state attorney general, said that in Michigan, Betsy Devos was known as a fearsome player. She knew what she wanted and made sure that nobody stood in her way. She is made of steel. She has continued to be the same Betsy Devos during her time in Washington, though she is also a publicly polite person.

Betsy Devos, as Education Secretary, has not let down on her goals of promoting school choice programs. As part of that effort, she has visited several charter and private schools. For example, she visited a charter school in Washington with the First Lady and the Queen of Jordan, who was visiting at the time. She then went to Florida, where she visited, together with famed rapper Pitbull, a charter school that he founded. Pitbull has founded several charter schools, the first one being in Miami. She also visited a private Christian school, as well as a regular public school. Learn more: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/23/us/politics/education-secretary-betsy-devos-donald-trump.html

Devos has visited Florida two times before as Education Secretary. She is particularly fond of Florida, where her school choice efforts have seen the most success. Former Governor Jeb Bush had instituted a number of programs that were designed to benefit non-public schools. In addition, her husband owns a house in Florida.
