Dr. Shafik Sachedina was born in 1950, in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. He attended the Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School, University of London, in which qualified him to become a dental surgery in 1975. Besides having skills in the field of dentistry as a dental and oral surgeon; he has responsibilities for the coordination of the Ismaili community’s activities and programs of sixteen primary areas where such institutional needs exist. He also takes responsibility for the “Aga Khan Development Network” in Central Asia.
As well as his current work in England as a dental surgeon, Dr. Sachedina has the mindset of an entrepreneur; this entrepreneurial mindset has led his work into the health care sector, particularly the elder care and nursing facilities marketplace. He is the current owner and founder of Sussex Healthcare, and he currently serves on the board as a joint chairman. He does work on a voluntary basis for the Aga Khan and Jamati Institutions, which goes along with the communities tradition of participating in volunteer service.
As well as his membership on the Institute of Ismaili Studies Board of Governors, he holds many other posts with his work for the Ismail Imamat Community. He has also served consecutive terms as the Ismaili Council President for the United Kingdom.
Dr. Shafik Sachedina is the current Head of Community Affairs for the Ismaili Imamat.
Dr. Shafik is a dental surgeon with many outside interests. These interests take him to a current post as the Jamati institutions head of department, based in France; also, “Chairman of the Focus” a Humanitarian assistance international coordinating committee.
His interests in the senior and nursing care fields is what made him want to start the Sussex Healthcare nursing facility in which is a nursing home that focuses primarily on the care of elderly and mentally disabled persons in the Sussex area. Sussex Healthcare offers support and care to individuals suffering from neurological conditions and brain injuries. It is his determination to see to it that Sussex Healthcare provides the utmost quality of care for each of the residents of the home. Dr. Shafik Sachedina is a humanitarian at heart and his work is proof of this. Most recently, Sussex Healthcare has began offering services to people with autism as well as young people with learning disabilities.
